Blurry-eyed view of my Farmers Market purchases.

Today was the opening day of the 2010 Puyallup Farmer's Market. I arrived just minutes before the official start time and completed my shopping within 30 minutes.

I, of all people, know I need a new camera, but I don't want to let go of the purse strings to buy one just yet.

Asparagus was available for $1.49 a pound. I purchased the soap I love, Rose and Jasmine, which is made locally. In the brown bag is a goodie I bought for myself to have later...a sweet butter pecan roll. Nummy!

The asparagus was bound for these three pints of hot pickled asparagus. It will be ready to eat in six weeks. I usually make Asparagus Roll-ups with ham and cream cheese. Another yummy. Especially with a Blue Moon Summer Beer.

The last purchase, a Black Beauty Zucchini from a vendor who lives here in Graham. Lots of blossoms on this lovely plant. The little pumpkin start is a freebie from the Puyallup Farmer's Market, 1 of 600, given away to the first 600 folks that ask. :)

Even with the wind and the cold temperatures, the market was FULL of vendors. It sure makes it feel like spring!

  3. Here's a question for you ladies. We're just starting a battle with invading rabbits. Planted a couple of blueberry bushes and overnight they were stripped bare of leaves. So how do we know which plants they go for? Now they've discovered our yard, I'm afraid for my veggie garden.

  4. Nothing heralds spring more than the opening of farmer's markets. I found your blog by chance and had intended only to say hello to a a another gal from the PNW. I was lured by your prior posts and ended up staying far longer than I planned. I really enjoyed my visit. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary

  5. the farmers market is one of my favorite places to be during the summer, except of course in the garden! Blue moon is really good, we are enjoying it with a slice of orange.

  6. Anyone know how to eradicate grasshoppers from the face of the earth without pesticide? They've just about eaten me out of the best garden I've ever had!

  7. The farmers market is one of my favorite things about the summer. Except when I buy produce that I forget about and find it weeks later in my fridge. I love the opening of the season though, its a season of opportunity.
