Srsly?!

I'm 43 years old. It took me 43 years to look up the ingredients in taco seasoning. Four decades & three years to realize that I have everything in my cupboard to make the best taco meat ever. I make my own granola, bread, chicken broth, and teriyaki sauce, but it took me twice the drinking age plus a year to get it into my thick skull that I don't have to buy the magical "taco seasoning" in the big plastic Cosctco container to make spicy, yummy meat to eat in our tacos & burritos & on our nachos. Shoot, this stuff is so good the little girlie wanted a bowl of it for breakfast yesterday & chanted "Meat, meat!" in order to get it.
So, let me share this miraculous recipe:

1 lb ground beef (preferably from purchased in bulk from a local farmer)
1 lb ground pork (ditto)

Brown meat & drain fat. Add 3/4 cups water & the following seasonings...

2 tbs chili powder
1 tbs + 1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder or granules
1/2 tsp onion powder or granules
1/2 tsp cayenne
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp paprika
2 tsp corn starch
2 tsp course salt

Simmer until the liquid is mostly evaporated & eat.

Enjoy!A carnivore in sheep shoes!!!

  1. I discovered the same thing recently about a year ago when my kids wanted tacos but we didn't have seasoning (and I'm your same age). I liked the homemade better.

  2. Don't feel bad! I am 47 and I found your post enlightening and empowering. :-) I think we will have taco salad for dinner tonight...
